These cupcakes are from Sweet Art From Scratch Bakery, a charming bakeshop and cafe located in the Shaw neighborhood in South City. Cbabi and Reine Bayoc opened their doors just a few years ago and since then Sweet Art has received outstanding reviews, including a mention in the NY Times article “36 Hours in St. Louis” and their veggie burger, the “sweet burger,” has been voted best burger in St. Louis (this scene from How I Met Your Mother could have been about the sweet burger, it’s that good). Other vegan highlights on the menu are the big momma cinnamon rolls, the 39th (BLT), brownies (big and fudgy!), chocolate chip cookies, and the cupcakes, of course (plus, almost everything on their menu can be made vegan). They usually have at least two vegan cupcake flavors each day. My favorites are the Chai Spice, Vanilla Squared (vanilla cupcake with pink vanilla frosting adorned with edible “pearls”), and Cookies N Cream. They are open Wednesday-Friday 8-6 and Saturday 8-4:30 (or until sold out), and they serve breakfast on Saturdays from 8:30-11 am (the french toast is to die for).
