The Red Wings played the Sharks today in the second game of the second round of the playoffs (and lost, but we’ll see the Sharks again on our turf on Wednesday!). I was wanting a game-time snack and almost bought pre-made guacamole at Whole Foods but decided at the last-minute (after seeing $8.99 on the price tag) to buy avocados instead and make my own. I returned home right before the third period was supposed to start and quickly whirled the avocados and a few other ingredients in the food processor and it was ready just before the puck dropped. There’s probably 1,000,000 different recipes for guacamole on the internet, but here’s my easy version of it just to motivate you to never buy pre-made guacamole ever again.
- 4 avocados
- 4 tbsp. lemon juice
- 1-2 garlic cloves
- 3/4-1 tsp. salt, to taste
- A pinch of cumin, optional
- Slice avocados in half, remove pit and scoop remaining contents into food processor.
- Add remaining ingredients and blend either until a few small chunks remain or until smooth, depending on your personal preference. Taste for salt. Serve immediately with organic, non-GMO corn chips.
